How to keep score at Kitti
Keep score for Kitti played with a real pack. Say how each deal ended and who took the pot, and the scorekeeper puts everybody’s stake in, carries a kitti, charges a salami and keeps the totals in stakes.
- Players
- 2 to 5
- What you need
- A pack of cards and this phone
- How long
- As many deals as you like
What it is for
Every deal of Kitti starts with a stake from every player, and whoever wins the three shows takes the pot. A deal nobody wins is a kitti and the pot waits for the next one, growing. A salami, all three shows, costs everybody who did not pack one stake more. Pots that carry are hard to keep straight, and this keeps them.
It needs no account and no signal. The score is kept on this phone, so it survives the screen going dark between deals, and the page opens again where you left it.
Setting the table
- Write in everybody’s name in the order you sit, going the way the deal passes.
- Tap Deals beside whoever deals first, or press Pick a dealer and let the phone choose.
- Set the house rules your table plays, then press Start. The phone remembers the names and the rules for next time.
Two to five players. The scores are in stakes, never money: set how many stakes each player puts in a deal.
After each deal
Above every deal the scorekeeper says what is in the pot once everybody has put a stake in.
When the deal is over, choose how it ended. For a win or a salami, tap the crown beside whoever took the pot, and mark anybody who packed.
How the score is worked out
The winner takes the pot, and everybody else has lost what they put into it since it was last taken. A salami adds a stake from everybody who did not pack. A kitti, or four pairs, leaves the pot for the next deal.
The stakes only ever move from one player to another, so the totals always add up to nought.
The arithmetic is the code the Kitti tables in this app score with, so the scorekeeper and the game always agree.
House rules
- Deals in a game
- No set end is how a real table plays Kitti.
- Stakes each, every deal
- How many stakes each player puts in at the start of a deal.
- A kitti carries the pot
- On by default. Turn it off and a deal nobody wins hands the stakes back.
Who deals, and where to sit
Pick a dealer chooses who deals first, and from then on the scorekeeper says whose deal it is above every deal. Shuffle seats puts the names in a new order to sit in.
Both draw from the phone’s own random number generator, the one the dice roller uses, so every seat is equally likely.
This is a scorekeeper for a game played with real cards, so there is nothing to set up and nothing to sign in to.
